Lesson No. 33: Life Never Dies
"Only in the eyes of love you can find infinity." -Sorin Cerin
In January, when I was traveling to Florida often to take care of my dad, my 7-year-old William decided to make his grandpa, Pop Paul, a delicious treat for me to deliver. William clanked away in the kitchen, humming delightfully, as he created an original concoction he thought Pop Paul would love. He buttered bread, stuck raisins in the shape of a smiley face, drizzled chocolate syrup, and sprinkled it with sugar for a final sweet touch. Lovingly focused on his cooking he said to me, “you know mom, life never dies.”
“What do you mean William?” I asked.
“Well, I am making the recipe for Pop Paul and thinking about him… he has cancer right? He will die, right? When he is gone, I will still always love him, and he will always love me… so his LOVE will never die. If love never dies than Life never dies. It goes on forever.”
