why restorative yoga?
Many people think restorative yoga is just a nap on a mat. While that can be really nice, it is so much more than that. Restorative Yoga is as an important form of self-care and ultimately collective care - that can help us restore resources, meet our tension and the trauma we harbor in our bodies, and learn to self regulate - in our largely high stressed and sleep-deprived lives - in a time when there has never been more divisiveness and difficult times in our personal lives, communities, and on our planet.
It is an alchemy of science and intention that can shift our inner chemistry and not only help us heal, but also to be more open, present, and energized in our lives, and transform the way we respond to the conditions within and around us.
Slowing down, turning inward, creating space for healing, and deeply listening to our body and heart is perhaps the most meaningful form of self-care work we can do. When we are more compassionate and connected with ourselves, we are able to be more compassionate and connected with others and the world around us. In this way, our practice not only benefits us, but it also benefits everyone we are in relationship with, and everyone we come into contact with.
what makes this training unique?
you’ll be immersed in practices and engaging training sessions with a variety of restorative yoga experts
you’ll learn how to elicit the relaxation response and self-regulation practices through restorative poses and practices both on and off the mat
you’ll enhance your understanding and experience of the deeper dimensions of yoga as it applies to your daily life
you’ll explore how restorative yoga can help us heal trauma and create conditions for post-traumatic growth
you’ll be prepared to create restorative experiences for others and deepen your own practice
you’ll connect with an amazing global network of individuals sharing supportive rest practices
-
You’ll explore the basic anatomy of the nervous system as it relates to the stress response and relaxation response theory, with the aim of understanding how you can use Restorative Yoga to calm the nervous system for health and healing.
-
At the heart of yoga are principles of wholeness and oneness, often taught through the five Koshas, our layers of being. In this lecture, you’ll receive an introduction to the Koshas and how they can help organize and guide your approach to practice and teaching.
-
You’ll learn how alignment affects breathing, and how breathing impacts overall well-being, including the nervous system and all of the systems that influence health and healing. The discussion will address well-being from the top down (brain to body) and from the bottom up (body to brain).
-
Learn how to set up a basic Savasana, as well as several variations depending on the props available and individual needs of your students. This will support our fundamental approach to all of our other poses, no matter what restorative “shapes” we work with.
-
Through lectures, tutorials, poses clinics, and full restorative practices, you will explore the core restorative poses, propping, and methodology.
-
You’ll learn how to artfully choose words, create imagery, sequence instructions, and craft a pace and tone that will help your students initiate their own healing and rejuvenation.
