a heart-opening restorative to create space for the breath & feel more connected

The breath is not something we deserve, accomplish, or get.

It's a process we simply allow to happen. We're simply receiving the gift of our breath. Our jobs are to open up more to this awareness of our breath.

As we breathe more deeply and rhythmically, it quells our stress and initiates a neurological relaxation, releasing hormones such as serotonin and oxytocin that not only relax us but help us experience connection, warmth, friendliness, and compassion. This is good for us but it also helps us be more friendly and open with each other — whether this happens in our minds, in our neighborhoods, or through a zoom conversation.

In this short restorative Fish Pose practice, we’ll create space in the heart, so we can connect with the breath and be more present — all in service of offering more compassion and kindness in the world. These are all conditions that will help us feel more connected with ourselves and each other.

If you would like to continue this exploration on the mat, I would like to invite you to join my new 8-week series, Essential Autumn Practices: Release Stress, Find Center, Build Strength.

As we transition into autumn, it's a time of heightened energy and increased stress, both from the seasonal shift and the tensions around us. It's important to fortify your inner resources to stay grounded and connected.

These practices help us regulate our nervous system, reduce stress in our body and mind, and create space for understanding and compassion—especially during challenging times like the upcoming elections. For the next 8 weeks, our practices will help you release tension, connect with your center, and cultivate strength as we navigate this season together.
