a practice for challenging times
More than ever, I have needed to revisit the lessons of our practice because itβs easy to get swept away in stress and overwhelm, and immediately fall into old patterns that arenβt helpful for me β and that certainly do not contribute to the collective.
I have studied with Pema Chodron every year since 1998, and every day of training she would say that our meditations are a daily practice. Not only that but itβs a moment-to-moment practice. Every moment offers us the opportunity to begin our practice again. To begin again.
This is important because when weβre stressed or overwhelmed, weβre limited to behaviors that may be habitual reactions, like aggression, avoidance, and withdrawal. But if we really want to contribute and create change, how we show up matters. When we can learn to pause and begin again, we can recenter and connect with ourselves and access a wider range of responses in how we meet the present moment.
Try this practice to feel more centered and present when we are carrying difficult thoughts, emotions, and sensations in the body and mind.
