learning to pause: practices for relaxing into the present moment

Landing

FRIDAY, JANUARY 26
10:00-11:00 AM ET

β€œOur bodies know that they belong, it is our minds that make our lives so homeless.” β€”John O’Donohue

We cannot feel safe unless we feel supported, and I mean literally supported on a physical level. Support and safety are prerequisites to being able to Pause and choose our response.

If we want to be able to physiologically relax, we need to feel our connection to the ground. When we talk about the stress response and how we might be in Fight, Flight, or Freeze, we are identifying a whole series of physiological conditions happening in the body. And until we can address those conditions, we will remain in a stressful state. The first step in this process is LANDING in the body, the actual act of β€œre-membering” our physical selves, consciously bringing all our parts back together, as well as providing the experience of our bodies having a relationship with the ground below us.

ABOUT THE SERIES

For many of us, our nervous system has been firing up our stress response so continuously that high alert now feels β€œnormal.”  And for the past several years, this state of stress is more heightened and widespread than I’ve seen in all my 30 years of teaching.

Pausing is the medicine for these times.

Pausing is a conscious relaxation practice. A way of disrupting our habitual reactions, making it possible for us to create new ways of responding to the moment and expanding our behavior options. This is an essential and urgent skill in these uncertain and challenging times.

In this 6-class series, I’ll guide you progressively through LARLARβ„’, the 6-step method I created to help you practice Pausing, a practice of conscious relaxation and returning to a place of calm. You’ll learn to kindfully meet your tension, create a sense of spaciousness, and open the path for a deeper connection in your body, mind, and heart.

Each class will weave together the latest science on the stress response and relaxation response, as well as simple, short, repeatable mindfulness exercises that help reduce stress and tension and cultivate somatic awareness and deep listening.

Plus, pair each practice with my FREE Friday Deep Listening Meditations at 9:30am ET.
