Each season creates major shifts on the earth, and this vigorous energy around us is also within us. We can align with this energy by paying attention to what’s happening in our body and mind and tilling our inner soil to help us move through transitions, whether they are seasonal or personal to our lives.
In this practice, we’ll explore the root chakra, which is tied to stability — how you do (or don’t) find your ground and center. Located at the base of the spine at the tailbone-level, the root chakra is known as “the root of all things.” It is concerned with the basic things you need for stability and sustainability in your life, such as shelter, food, and safety, as well as more emotional needs, such as letting go of fear. When these needs are met, you feel grounded and stable, and you tend to worry less day-to-day. In this way, it acts as our center of emotional and spiritual balance, as well as instinctual consciousness.
We’ll start with a rooting practice, connecting with our feet, legs and pelvis, in order to keep us energized as we move through this transformational time.

ABOUT THE SERIES
Spring is a time of rebirth and renewal, as well as rigorous expansion. Yet the turbulent realities of our world events and daily lives are creating contraction. More than ever, this paradox calls for us to pause and resource our energy when we are inclined to do the opposite of what nature is calling us to do. This is why our next series will focus on energy.
In a journey through the chakras, the series will invite us to cultivate the resources we need to be grounded, enlivened, and present. Each practice will take us deeper into our energetic core—the spine—which will help us to return to a state of vitality and to rejuvenate our mind and body.
Each session will integrate slow flowing yoga poses that balance stability with expansion, breathing exercises for vitality and calmness, and restoratives to nourish and recharge. We'll also incorporate imagery, expand our understanding on the energy centers, and pause for self-study to help us explore how to manage our energy and resources more mindfully, so we can live in service to ourselves and our communities with clear intentions.
