Begin the New Year Feeling More Calm, Clear, & Open

Friday, February 18: Listening Deeply - Pausing

We’ll use this sequence to train in pausing. We are learning to pause and relax so that we can make more room for curiosity, listening, and insight. We’ll practice listening rather than reacting, discovering rather than deciding in advance. Flowing in and out of standing poses, such as Warrior I and Warrior II, we will explore the pause at the end of the exhale. It is in this pause that we have time to tune in to our body, time to feel what we are doing as we are doing it. We’ll notice when we “feel” the urge to deduce in advance how you should do a pose or how it should look or feel. And we’ll make room, instead, to discover how to navigate the pose and create how we feel in the pose, so that we can balance both stability and ease moment by moment.

"You are not a drop in the ocean. You are the whole ocean as a drop." —Rumi

Deep Listening is the practice of pausing and opening. We pause so we can pay attention to ourselves, to others, and to the world around us in a more open and compassionate way. In this sense, Deep Listening focuses on experiencing our connectedness, which helps us experience a sense of "okayness," belonging, and wholeness. This feeling of connection not only changes the way we respond to stress, it actually leaves us feeling more at peace and sets the conditions for us to evolve. As we feel more centered in our own lives, we will have more resources to stay open, curious, compassionate, and helpful as we expand into our relationships and the world around us.

Join us for Jillian’s signature Deep Listening Series, based on her best-selling book, which will guide you to release blocked energy, surrender layers of deeply held tension, nurture your capacity for self-compassion, and help you access your inner wisdom. Weaving together mindful slow flow and restorative yoga, meditation, reflection, and off-the-mat awareness practices, you will warm your body, clear your mind, open your heart, and leave you feeling more connected.
