15-minute deep core practice to reconnect and recenter

These days my personal somatic practice is all about developing strength.

Spring is a great time to work with our muscles as well as our bones and joints. When we develop a sense of stability in the body, we can feel more fluid and flow (and grow) along with the steady expansion of the season.

We cultivate that rooting quality for that blooming quality. 🌸

Getting stronger feels good, however, it’s often for more subtle reasons than we may think. Creating a sense of stability can make it easier to work with our emotional and mental layers; and building a resilient container makes it feel safer to soften, which creates more space for our nourishing breath.

It also helps us set the conditions to feel lighter and more spacious in our hearts. (In my current practice series, I’m coupling strength work with metta, lovingkindness, meditation.)

This week, I’d love to share a 15-minute deep core practice from my Friday class. This foundational core sequence will help you reconnect to your center and prepare you for the first metta meditation in the series (which is free and available here!).

In the full series, we’ll focus on the overall strength and stability of our whole bodyβ€”with some extra loving on our coreβ€”as well as practices and techniques to expand our breathing, release deep tension, and replenish our inner reserves.

Often it’s easier to work with our emotional and mental layers by first addressing our physical bodies. That’s why we’ll create a strong container so that we feel stable and secure to soften and create more space for our breath and our heart-centered practice. Through a unique progression of practices that couple mindful movement with metta (lovingkindness) meditation, we’ll create shifts in our mood, and perspective.
