awareness from root to blossoming crown
Known in Sanskrit as Sahasrara, our crown is an energy center located above our physical bodies. It is associated with unbound awareness, infinite energy, and higher consciousness. From this space, we harness the ability to experience and integrate our personal skillfulness and intellect with a larger view.
It’s from the crown that we collaborate with the larger energy of the universe. This “big” awareness is different from concentration, which is how we pay attention and what we pay attention to.
Big awareness, however, is the space in which what we’re paying attention to rises and falls.
It is a spaciousness that holds paradox, contradiction, and ambiguity—a space where all of it is equally welcomed.
So when we’re working with our crown chakra, we’re developing the capacity to widen our perspective… to know more than our thinking mind can know.
finding big awareness in the crown chakra
This 10-minute crown chakra practice is meant to remind us that we are earth, we are spirit, and we are universal awareness – all in human form.
We’ll turn inward through high lunge, low lunge, crocodile pose, and forward fold. We’ll chant OM to connect with our universal consciousness. And we’ll end in Tadasana to tap into our central channel.
